Rain Forest Hostel Chugchilan and the Quilotoa volcano

We left Baños early on Saturday morning, I was up at 5.45 as I was on breakfast duty! Fortunately it didn’t rain whilst we were packing up our tents. We were all ready and on the road for 8.00am

On the way we stopped in a village for a lunch of toasted corn on the cob, broad beans and baby potatoes and deep fried bananas and cheese. Saw our first Llama and lots of locals in traditional attire.

It rained as we arrived at the hostel, so we were soon in the games room with a beer. The temperature has dropped from 30+ in the rain forest to a chilly 10 degrees here.
After a lovely sleep in a proper bed we were up early again for a hike. We took the truck to the rim on a volcano and hiked the 10k back to the hostel. Quite an experience as we were up at nearly 4000m and going up was very hard work on the legs and chest. Very steep on the way down with a few in the group struggling with the narrow paths and sheer drops. On the way our guide stopped to talk to some locals, with whom we shared our lunch. They were happy to show us there Guinea Pigs which sell for $10 to eat on special occasions.

Next stop  two night in Cuenca. Where they make the Panama hat and said to be the nicest city in Ecuador. Long drive to get there, about 11 hours.
