Baños

Just spent three nights and two days in Baños. A small pretty town in the mountains. It is a top spot for local and international tourists because of all the mountain activities on offer. At home it would be quite high at 1800m but not here by local standards. When ever we were in Baños there seemed to be a band playing somewhere.

It was our first camping experience, and cooking for the group, 24! We’re in separate cooking groups and managed working with the others eventually. Weather mostly dry, really hot in the sun. On our first day we have a massage and then spent some time in the thermal baths.

The next day we went canyoning, with others from our group. This is abseiling down a series of waterfalls and finally over a 30m rock face in the water. Others went rafting, hiking etc.

We had lunch in the local ‘Mercado’, two courses and a drink for $2.50. We topped our day of with a hike to the Devils Cauldron,  quite amazing waterfall, very high and incredible powerful.

We’re getting used to sleeping in our little green tent on a mat!!!!!

Next stop is  Chugchilan a 6 hour drive up to a small village high in the Andes at 3200m our first test of walking at high altitude.
