Waterfalls, spiders and jungle caves

The drive east from Quito to the Huasquilla Amazon Lodge took 6 hours. We eventually descended down to 500m, however the road took us up to 5050m as we crossed the mountains. 30 minutes of the 6 hours was spent waiting for the recovery of a pick-up truck up that had crashed 200m down a ravine on one of the hair pin bends!

We stayed three nights and have experienced hot and wet and hot and humid. The visit included a number of jungle walks, caving and a river trip.

Some of the waterfalls have been spectacular. We’ve seen panning for gold, pottery bowls being made and the preparation of local food and drink.

Lots of scorpion spider in the caves and other massive insects.

The flowers are amazing and so is some of the local transport.

Locals living in quite a simple way.
